What exactly is the DYMO 45016?
It is a Dymo 45016 D1 format cassette: black print on blue polyester tape, 12 mm (1/2) wide and approximately 7 m (23 ft) long - offered under product number S0720560 / 45016.
Which DYMO machines will it work with?
This D1 cassette is available to work with DYMO plus the LabelManager and LabelPoint (many LabelManager 100-500 series and the LabelPoint models take D1 cassettes). This tape will almost certainly be compatible with any LabelManager or LabelPoint handheld/desktop set so long as something has a cassette lane marked as compatible with a D1 cassette size.
Is the label permanent or removable? Will it last outdoors?
The Dymo 45016 is a good durability polyester D1 tape - most resellers will market 45016 as high-performance and removable/semi-permanent, depending on the surface and time - will not withstand extreme weather or extreme abrasion - will eventually cause print/adhesive to deteriorate. Truly permanent outdoors, due to their preference, is the polyester DYMOs in high-performance permanent models, or test a small sample.
How do I install and use the cassette (quick steps)?
To do this, first pop off the tape compartment of your label maker, then click the D1 cassettes in until they snap into place. After that, close the compartment, choose your width (usually 12 mm), type your text, and print it. Peel off the backing to apply the label—stretch the label out without leaving any bubbles. (Unless the label is feeding, pull out the cassette and reinsert it, which often fixes the problem.)
Where can I buy the genuine 45016, and how much does it cost?
It is available at large office stores and marketplaces (the location of DYMO and stores such as Staples, Amazon, and eBay). Prices are seller and pack-size dependent, with single cassettes usually pricing in-pocket with the general office-supply price range and multi-packs providing a more attractive per-roll cost. It is easily found in stores, for example.
Are third-party (compatible) tapes OK — any tips?
Yes, good third-party D1-format tapes are widely available and significantly less expensive; several vendors actually promise functionality and like extents of print finish. In case you are using a third-party tape, purchase the one that has a favorable return/review history. H-Hint: bead the surface and dry it afterward before the labels are placed and labeling extremely rough or dirty surfaces is impossible, and cassette spares must be stored in an area with low heat to maintain adhesive and print quality.
